In the Liberator, photographic portraits inspired by the subversive, absurdist paintings of Rene Magritte investigate the paradoxical notion that physical limitations can create a sense of emotional freedom. Manipulating motifs of bondage and liberty while obscuring gender and nationality, these pictures endeavor to release the subject from the burden of identity.
