Returning to the place I grew up in Los Angeles is like walking into an old self, wearing a new dress. I notice things I used to take for granted as odd or interesting, and often encounter an array of emotions, towards myself, my family, that are unpredictable. There is memory, distance, and the whole business of growing – growing up, growing away, where perspectives are in constant flux, leading to new thoughts and insights.

When I dream, it is often in the house where I grew up. If there’s a house in the dream, it’s that house. In the photographs from this series, I use the house, where my parents still live, as the stage for this work.
